The legislation applies to businesses, schools, hospitals and non-domestic sites and requires you to separate dry recycling from the general waste - paper, cardboard, cartons, metals, plastics and glass.
You will also be required to separate out food waste - human food, pet food, biodegradable items (such as fruit, vegetables, tea bags, bones, peelings).
31st March 2025 - businesses with 10 or more FTEs must separate food waste and dry recyclables for collection.
31st March 2026 - Firms with fewer than 10 FTEs must separate food waste and dry recyclables for collection. All businesses will also need to separate plastic film packaging and plastic bags in the plastic waste stream.
